Customer Spotlight - Garage Living Room

Today, we'd like to show you one of our favorite jobs in recent memory. This job comes to us out of Long Beach. One of our repeat customers came to us with a unique request. He mentioned that he had a fairly large garage and was only using half of it for his car and his storage. The other half was dusty and dirty and a complete waste of space.

Together with the client, we decided to turn the other half in to a beautiful den / relaxation area. It ended up being an extremely fun project, as well as being fairly cost effective. All it took was some new lighting, new drywall, a fresh coat of paint, and a beautiful floor to finish it off.

The floor he chose was a combination ceramic tile and laminate floor which looked absolutely stunning when completed. The entire floor from wall to wall came to a grand total of a very reasonable $1,500. While it may have been low cost, this floor is created to be extremely durable and will last for years to come withstanding all types of abuse.

Now, our client hangs out here nightly with his friends after a long day of work. He told us "I now have a large open area to entertain guests and it's extremely comfortable. I'm very pleased."

Carpet Floors - Warming homes for less money!

BRRR! This week has been particularly cold in the United States. With temperatures reaching sub zero degrees in some parts, It has definitely been one of the coldest weeks in recent memory. Although B&T is currently based in sunny and warm Southern California, we would like to share some tips on keeping warm.

Continued use of heaters (electric or gas) can be very expensive. Another downfall of these methods is that without continued use, your home will drop back to the original temperatures quickly. Trying to save money will cool your house down but trying to warm it will cost money. It's a viscous cycle.

Our professional team of flooring installers share that installing carpet in your home can help to prevent heat loss and actually keep your home warmer. The carpet provides excellent insulation which will retain heat better from the sun, while preventing the loss of heat through the hard surface floor beneath it. It can lower heating costs from continued use and by our estimate the savings will eventually overcome the cost of the floor's installation!

If you have a beautiful wood, laminate, linoleum, or tile floor that you would like to keep, it's not the end of the world for you either. Purchasing an area rug will mimic the insulation properties of carpet and you can use it on top of your existing floor. The heat retention may not be as complete as with a full carpet floor but you will definitely notice a difference.

Laminate Floors vs Hardwood Floors cost - Which should I choose?

Everybody wants a beautiful wood floor in their house. In addition to Hardwood and other wood flooring looking absolutely gorgeous, it significantly increases the value of your home. The old saying "you have to spend money to make money" is very relevant here and the traditionally high cost of installing hard wood flooring drives many people away from the idea. 

To those people, I would like to introduce you to my friend Laminate flooring. 

Laminate flooring is a beautiful alternative to traditional hardwood flooring. It mimics the look and feel of classic wood floors at a fraction of the price. In our experience, many people can't tell the difference. Laminate floors make use of specially engineered composite boards with a printed pattern applied to the topside. This layer is laminated and textured to emulate authentic wood floors as closely as possible. Because they are not made from natural wood, you end up paying up to 50% less for your floor. Don't let the price fool you though, the finished product is beautiful and you will be proud to show your new floor to your friends and family!

Hardwood floors are understandably more expensive. They are created from real wood stained and treated for use on floors in homes. Their look and durability is unmatched, but laminate floors come extremely close. You do end up paying a premium for these floors, but the money invested will translate to much higher values if you go to sell your home.

The question of "Which should I choose" really comes down to your wallet. Hardwood floors offer unmatched durability and add a significant amount to the resale value of the home. Laminate floors copy the look and feel of authentic hardwood floors with similar durability for a much lower price and less effect on resale values.

The one thing that remains certain is that your floor will be gorgeous regardless of which option you choose.
